Zoya is a journalist who lives on Sakhalin. She is a member of the Nivkhindigenous ethnic group. As a child, she was bullied by her classmates because of her ethnicity, so she left her hometown at the first opportunity. Due to her mother`s disability, she is now forced to return to her home village of Nogliki. Whilespending winter evenings with her mother, Zoya writes down the stories and legends of her people. Writing her book helps her to accept herself for who she is.
