Filmed in six countries during fifteen years, «The Last Transhumance» takes us into the world of shepherds who walk with their animals very long distances in search for food: an ancient way of life not compatible with the modern world. «There were these people with sheep who appeared you didn't know where from. Even if they told you where they came from you had no idea where their villages were, you had no idea where they were going. They were slightly alarming strange creatures from an alien world». Dragoș Lumpan, the director of this film, started to follow transhumance 15 years ago. During this time, Dragoș spent about six months on the field, along with the shepherds from six countries: Romania, Albania, Greece, Italy, Wales and Turkey. Throughout the film, the spectator gradually travels through all four seasons with shepherds and their daily routines. Transhumance is the livestock’s movement in search of available pastures, over considerable distances, following seasonal patterns. «The Last Transhumance» title comes from the Romanian shepherds Bebeselea-Sterp, a family who was on the road for several generations. While working on the film they gave up transhumance.
