“If you promise to go on in Tanyurer (without going crazy, of course), then we’ll take you.” Blogger Maxim Polyakov was thrilled when he heard these words from the leader of the Russian Geographical Society's expedition. His application for a trip to Chukotka had been approved. The expedition set off for the abandoned northern village of Tanyurer. During World War II, it had a large airfield where Allied military equipment arrived. Now, only a meteorologist and his dog live there. All around are abandoned and wrecked military vehicles and planes. Before the trip, Maxim imagined an endless, untouched tundra, anticipating tranquility and peace. What did he actually see?
