The film portrays the life of two elderly St. Petersburg intellectuals, a husband and wife who survived the Leningrad Siege as children. Now living alone with their dog (their children having moved away and keeping in touch only by phone), they exemplify remarkable wisdom, patience, forgiveness and optimism. Their mutual love and warm home attract those in need of support like a fire draws in the freezing.
